Khunnah and Kamble score contrasting wins


Naman Khunnah and Piyush Kamble in contrasting fashion won their respective round of 32 matches of the CCI-GMBA Yonex Sunrise District Badminton Championship 2023, and played at the CCI badminton courts on Sunday.

In a match of fluctuating fortunes, Khunnah showed tremendous fighting qualities as he came from behind to overcome Deepak Jaitly, winning in three tough games at 18-21, 22-20 and 21-18.

In contrast, 18-year-old Piyush Kamble, a first year student of R.A. Podar College was in complete control against Jehan Daboo and cruised to a straight games win. The left-handed Kamble, who last December had won the DSO Boys’ Under-19 singles crown, romped to a comfortable 21-12, 21-17 victory.

Meanwhile, seasoned campaigner and former champion Nigel D’Sa easily advanced to the round of 16 defeating Meet Shah 21-12, 21-12. Shah had earlier prevailed over Himanshu Bokadia 21-5, 21-5.
