Divya sscores hat-trick in D’Souza FA’s big 8-0 win


D’Souza Football Academy player showed good understanding and excellent teamwork and went on to register a thumping 8-0 win against Sporko CFCI in a Women’s Super Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023, played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Friday.

Leading D’Souza FA’s charge to the emphatic margin of victory was their energetic striker Divya Basantanl who struck a hat-trick of goals, Divya’s teammates Prabati D. scored two goals while Jyoti Kumari, Mariyam Khatum and new recruit Navya Dholakia contributed with one goal apiece to complete the winning tally of goals.

In another match, Young Guns FC ‘B’ staged a remarkable fight back to overcome Somaiya FA by a fighting 3-2 margin. Somaiya FA dominated proceedings initially and scored twice in the first session through Riya Panchal in the 14th minute and Shrushti Sawant in the 30th minute to take a commanding 2-0 half-time lead.

But on resumption, Young Guns returned as a transformed side and scored three goals during the second period to clinch a satisfying win and pocket all the three points. Young Guns were well-served by striker Tracy Monis who hit the target twice while Megan Alessa chipped in with one goal to seal a thrilling victory for the team.

The Third Division (Men) semi-finals scheduled to be played in the evening was cancelled due to non availability of referees. Regal FC was to clash with St. Rock’s FC and later Sahar Silver Star was to play against Ground Mechanix SA.
