Naishaa Bhatoye & Sarvesh Yadav win MIG badminton titles


The top seeds Naishaa Bhatoye of Greater Mumbai District and Sarvesh Yadav of Thane District emerged champions winning the girls’ and boys’ under-17 singles titles respectively in the Suhas Nadkarni Memorial Yonex Sunrise Maharashtra State Open Badminton Tournament 2023, organized by the MIG Cricket Club under the auspices of the Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA).

In the girls’ summit round, Naishaa enjoyed smooth sailing against unseeded Riya Vinherkar also of Greater Mumbai and cruised to a quick 21-6, 21-5 victory with a measure of ease in 21 minutes, at the MIG CC courts, on Saturday.

Sarvesh was also in complete control against Arnav Dagli and charged to a straight game 21-10, 21-6 victory in 25 minutes in the boys’ final.

Earlier in the day, Naishaa defeated Vedika Kulkarni 21-10, 21-7 in the girls’ semi-finals.

In the boy’s semi-finals, top seed Sarvesh Yadav after quickly winning the first game faced a bit of challenge from Ishan Salvi in the second but pulled through posting a 21-10, 22-20 win. Second seed Swaraj Bhamare of Nashik suffered a shock defeat at the hands of unseeded Arnav Dagli losing in straight games at 9-21, 18-21.

In the Men’s doubles (combination 80+) semi-finals, the unseeded pairing of Amit Deshpande and Prashant Bahatre scored a stunning win against top seeds Ashish Khedikar and Sandeep Mohan by racing to a 21-7, 21-15 win, while Kaushik Vartak and Rohit Athaley defeated Milind Rane and Shyju Thomas 21-14, 21-16.

Later, in the semi-finals of the Men’s doubles (combination 90+) category, the top-seeded pair of Ashish Khedikar and Sandeep Mohan suffered another shock defeat losing to the unseeded duo of Prashant Bahatre and Yogesh Padukone in three tough games at 17-21, 21-11 and 15-21.

Second seeds Parag Ekande and Siddharth Kishor Patil stormed into the final registers a quick win against Murukan E.V. and Rakesh Raghvan coasting to a 21-7, 21-7 victory.

Results – Boys’ U-17 singles (semi-finals): 1-Sarvesh Yadav bt Ishan Salvi 21-10, 22-20; Arnav Dagli bt 2-Swaraj Bhamare 21-9, 21-18.

Final: 1-Sarvesh Yadav bt Arnav Dagli 21-10, 21-6.

Girls’ U-17 singles (semi-finals): 1-Naishaa Bhatoye bt Vedika Kulkarni 21-10, 21-7.

Final: 1-Naishaa Bhatoye bt Riya Vinherkar 21-6, 21-15.
