Young Zoroastrian declared champions on net run-rate


Young Zoroastrian, Azad Maidan Centre were declared champions on the basis of their first innings net run-rate in the finals of the 26th Late Ajit Naik Memorial Boys’ Under-14 selection trials cricket tournament 2023, organised by Worli Sports Club under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association. The two-day final played between Young Zoroastrian and Bhayander Municipal Ground Centre finished in a draw and the first innings scores of both teams were tied, on the second day of the final at the Worli Sports Club ground on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, Young Zoroastrian Azad Maidan Centre in their 1st innings were bowled out for 91 runs in 46 overs. Bhayander Centre bowlers Shahid Khan 3 for 17 and Pratik Sable 3 for 17 claimed the wickets. In reply, Bhayander Municipal Ground Centre in their first innings were unable to overhaul the opponents’ low total and were also dismissed for 91 runs in 48.2 overs.

In the second essay, Young Zoroastrian declared the innings at 111 for 6 wickets in 51,3 overs with Dhairya Patil scoring an unbeaten 38 runs. Bhayander Centre scored 14 for 1 wicket in the remaining 4 overs before end of day play.

With the match drawn and the scores of the first innings tied, the two umpires taking into consideration the MCA playing rules decided that Young Zoroastrian were winners as they finished the first innings with a better net run-rate. Young Zoroastrian scored their runs in 46 overs while Bhayander Centre had scored their 91 runs in 48.2 overs.

Young Zoroastrian batter Shon Korgaonkar who batted confidently and consistently throughout the tournament and had scored a century 116 runs in the semi-finals was declared ‘Player of the Tournament’.
