Customs strike late to hold Western 2-2


Mumbai Customs scored an equaliser at the death to salvage a point as they held Western Railway to a fighting 2-2 draw in a Super Division match of the Mumbai Hockey League 2022-2023, jointly organized by Hockey Mumbai City and Hockey Mumbai Suburbs, and played at the Don Bosco High School Hockey Turf, Matunga on Sunday morning.

Western Railway did not take time to pick up steam and drew first blood in the 10th minute from a field goal effort from Pranit Naik. The second and third quarter drew a blank before Customs drew level with Jayesh Jadhav scoring from a penalty corner in the 53rd minute. In the very next minute Western Railway scored the second goal to take the second for the second time when their captain Rajin Kandulna struck from another field goal.

Mumbai Customs fought on gamely and their efforts bore fruits as Nikhil Pardesh converted from a penalty corner to help his team share honours with the railway outfit.

Later in the evening, Sports Authority of India defeated Republicans SC 3-1. Strikers Abhishek Vithole, Karan Thosre and Sajal Saxena, all contributed with one goal each for the SAI team. Atharv Bandekar scored Republicans’ lone goal.

Result: Western Railway 2 (Pranit Naik, Rajin Kandulna) drew with Mumbai Customs 2 (Jayesh Jadhav, Nikhil Pardeshi).

Sports Authority of India 3 (Abhishek Vithole, Karan Thosre, Sajal Saxena) beat Republicans SC 1 (Atharv Bandekar).
