Naveen Salian wins crucial match for PTKS


After losing his first match against promising Junior Dev Hingorany 1-3, experienced Naveen Salian won his crucial deciding match for Prabodhankar Thackeray Kreeda Sankul (PTKS) C team against young Gaurang Sawant of Andheri YMCA-‘A’ 3-0. This enabled PTKS ‘C’ to record their first win in the First Division Annual Inter Club Table Tennis league of the TSTTA at PTKS, Vile Parle.

Earlier, PTKS best player Suhas Rane had convincingly beaten Gaurang Sawant in three straight games. He however lost the fourth match to Dev Hingorany 1-3. Dev’s efforts of winning both his matches for YMCA went in vain, as he could help his team to level the set score at 2-2. Before that Sameer Bhate had easily beaten Merwyn Patel 3-0 to give his team PTKS  2-1 lead. Much was expected from Gaurang in the deciding match, but he couldn’t face the challenge from cool and composed Naveen, who played tactfully. 

Another PTKS ‘A’ team comprising of youngsters Dhruv Shah, Sharveya Samant and Arnav Karnavar scored a 3-0 win against Veterans comprising of Prakash Kelkar, B. Newagi & A. Kothari from BKLP- Mulund.  

PTKS Women’s ‘A’ team had mixed luck in the Women’s II nd division League, as they beat Andheri YMCA 3-0, but lost to Jayesh Lakhani TT Academy ( JLTTA) 2-3 in a well fought match. For JLTTA, Hiya Mehta won both her matches beating Niva Chaugule 3-2 and Arshia Rai 3-1. Their third crucial match was won by Palak Jhaveri who beat Arshia 3-2 in a closely contested battle. Earlier, Niva partnering Bhoomi Pitale had won the doubles match for PTKS.

Another PTKS Women’s team ‘B’ comprising of Sadia, Sunanda, Sivapriya and Shravani while playing in the IIIrd division, scored an easy 3-0 win over Ghatkoper YMCA. Earlier, Chembur Gymkhana women had defeated Ghatkoper YMCA Girls 3-0 in this division.
