Champions Training Centre (CTC) maintained their winning run of form and handed Western Railway a 4-2 in a Super Division match of the Mumbai Hockey League 2022-2023, jointly organized by Hockey Mumbai City and Hockey Mumbai Suburbs, and played at the Don Bosco High School Hockey Turf, Matunga on Wednesday evening.
Western Railway started well initially before Rajat Sharma converted a penalty corner in the final minute of the first quarter to give CTC the lead, which they maintained till end of the first two quarters. Affan Yusuf had scored the second goal before Sharma was again on target, scoring the third from another short corner in the third quarter.
Western Railway put up a good fight and scored two quick goals through Rajin Kandulna to narrow the lead to 2-3 in the fourth quarter. Aqib Rahim put the issue beyond the railwaymen by slamming home CTC’s fourth goal to complete the win.
This was CTC’s fourth successive win from as many outings and with 12 points they now climb to the top of the standings. For Western Railway this was their second loss in three matches.
CTC roving forward Sharma was declared ‘Player of the Match’ and received his trophy and prize from Olympian M.M. Somaya and Mumbai Customs player Hement Gethe.
Result: Champions Training Centre 4 (Rajat Sharma 2, Affan Yusuf, Aqib Rahim) beat Western Railway 2 (Rajin Kandulna 2).
