Central Railway produced a slick combined performance and charged past Maharashtra State Police racing to a 6-0 win in their opening Super Division match of the Mumbai Hockey League 2022-2023, jointly organized by Hockey Mumbai City and Hockey Mumbai Suburbs, and played at the Don Bosco High School Hockey Turf, Matunga on Thursday.
The railway outfit started in a perfect attacking fashion and opened the scoring in the second minute through seasoned midfielder Victo Singh and ended the first quarter with a slender 1-0 advantage. In the second Central scored twice through Mohammed Nizamuddin who scored the first of his two goals in the 23rd minute and six minutes later Shreyas Ghupe added the third as they went into the break with a healthy 3-0 lead.
The Policemen did well to deny Central from adding to the tally in the third quarter, but were completely outplayed in the fourth and conceded three more goals during this period. In the third minute of the fourth quarter, Sundaram Singh increased the lead to 4-0 before Nizamuddin was again on target with his second and the team’s fifth goal. Basvaraj Ambiger hammered in the sixth goal in the 55th minute to complete Central Railway’s impressive victory.
