Payyade Sports Club emerge champions

Payyade Sports Club emerged champions defeating challengers MIG Cricket Club by a convincing 5 wickets in the final of the John Bright CC organized 2nd MCA Rathod Trophy Under-25 Invitation T20 cricket tournament 2022-2023, played at the MCA ground, BKC on Monday.

MIG CC batting first found the going tough and could only muster to pile up a total of 130 all out in 20 overs. The MIG batters were unable to counter-attack the disciplined Payyade bowlers, who were well-backed by the fielders who grabbed every catch and were quick to save plenty of runs to frustrate the opposition.

Middle-order batsman Om Keshkamath was the only batsman to take the fight to the Payyade camp and managed to score 30 runs (21-balls, 4×4). Sheesh Shetty chipped in with 20 runs (25-balls, 3×4), but it was not enough to swell the total. Payyade medium Pacer Sourabh Singh claimed three wickets from his third and the team’s final over to finish with figures of 3 for 21. Spinners Himanshu P.  2 for 21 and Tanush Kotian 2 for 24 got the other wickets.

In reply, Payyade after an early setback came back strongly with Suved Parkar leading the way with a cracking knock of 70 runs (41-balls, 8×4, 2×6) and steer the team to a total of 133 runs for 5 wickets in 18.2 overs and clinch the Rathod Trophy.
