Central and Western to meet WCG hockey final


Central Railway and Western Railway will clash in the Women’s Open final of the 42nd Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana rink hockey tournament. In the semi-finals, Central Railway riding on the brace of goals from Yogita Bora and one goal from Preeti Dubey raced past a youthful Don Bosco Academy coasting to a 3-0 win at the floodlit WCG turf.

In the second semi-final, Western Railway got the better of Sai NCOE Mumbai 4-3. Western Railway scored through Anupa Barla and Manisha K., both scoring two goals each, while the losers scored through Shivani Sahu who struck two goals and one through Hema Happali.

In the Men’s Open semi-final competition, CTC Blue defeated Ave Maria SC 6-1 and Mumbai Customs Red 3 overcame UBI Boys 3-2.

The Veteran Men’s final, will be contested between formidable Mumbai Raje White and Savio Sports Club. Mumbai Raje blanked Mumbai Port Authority 3-0 and Savio SC prevailed over Sea View-WCG by a 4-2 margin.

Veteran Men (semi-finals): Mumbai Raje White 3 (Sam M. Solomon Alexander, Hement G.) beat Mumbai Port Authority 0.

Savio SC 4 (Karl Gomes 2, Adolf Vaz, Shelton Carvalho) beat Sea View-WCG 2 (Vijay Panchal, Conroy Remedious).

 Men’s Open (semi-finals): CTC Blue 6 (Abharan Sudev 2, Devinder Walmiki 2, Tikaram T. 2) beat Ave Maria SC 1 (Tushar Khandekar).

Mumbai Customs Red 3 (Iktidar S. 2, Joshua Vesaokar) beat UBI Boys 2 (Aamid Khan, Advaith K.M.).

Women’s Open (semi-finals): Central Railway 3 (Yohita Bora 2, Preeti Dubey) beat Don Bosco Academy 0.

Western Railway 4 (Anupa Barla 2, Manisha K. 2) beat Sai NCOE Mumbai 3 (Shivani Sahu 2, Hema Happali).
