Chief Guest Ashish Shelar, the BCCI treasurer alongwith Guest of Honour Jemimah Rodrigues, the star India inernational women’s cricketer felicitated the Gordhandas Suburban Shield Cricket tournament winners Young Muslims Cricket Club at the prize distribution function held at Khar Gymkhana yesterday. Also present was former India women captain Diana Eduljee.
Praising the Khar Gymkhana and its of President Vivek Devnani for their continued support in hosting the 78th year of the tournament, Mr Iqbal Bhabha, the chairman of the tournament committee, thanked the hosts and stated it was for the first time the final was played in T20 format under floodlit at Khar Gymkhana.
In the final, thanks to incisive spin bowling by Santosh Goswami and Sandesh Yadav, Young Muslims Sports Club defeated Ours Own Cricket Club (Virar) by 39 runs. On the way to the final, Young Muslims SC thrashed Friends CC by 112 runs while Ours CC won against Maskati CC by seven wickets.
