Indian Cricket legend Salim Durani who played for India during the period 1960 to 1973 has ended his innings of his life at the age of 88. He passed away today at his brother’s residence in Jamnagar, Gujarat. One of the finest all rounders among Indian cricketers in 60s, Salim Durani also played Ranaji Trophy for Gujarat, Rajasthan & Saurashtra.
Those days, he was known for hitting a Sixer on demand coming from spectators.
Salim Durani was the hero of India’s historic Test series win against England in 1961–62. He had captured 8 and 10 wickets in India’s wins at Kolkatta and Chennai respectively. He also played an instrumental role in India’s maiden win against the West Indies at Port of Spain, taking the Prize wickets of Clive Lloyd and Gary Sobers.
A celebrity cricketer of his time, towards the end of his test cricket career Salim Durani also appeared in a Hindi film ‘Charitra’ (1973) with Parveen Babi. He was conferred with the C.K. Nayudu Life Time Achievement in 2011. With his passing away India has lost a finest all rounder of 60s and early 70s. May his soul rest in peace.
