Impressive Vrushali shines in Thunders easy victory


An impressive all-round performance from Vrushali Bhagat was the highlight of Mumbai Thunders facile 45-run victory over Mumbai Blasters in a second round match of the Mumbai Cricket Association organized President Cup women’s T20 cricket tournament, played at the Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate.


MCA Vice-President Sanjay Naik presents the ‘Women of  the Match’ award to all-rounder Vrushaliu Bhagat who scored 44 runs and claimed 2 wickets for 6 runs.

Batting lower down the order Vrushali played a responsible knock scoring 44 runs from 30 balls which contained 5 superb hits to the boundary ropes. Besides Vrsuhali some of the other batswomen failed to convert the starts into big scores and their innings closed at 114 for 6 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Blasters blowers Janhhvi Kate (2 for 16) and Sayali Satghare (2 for 23) got the wickets.

In reply, Mumbai Blasters batters were unable to stay focused and lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for a measly 69 runs in 18.3 overs.

Opener Riya Chaudhari showed some solidity with the bat and was the top-scorer with 29 runs. The remaining batswomen were unable to negotiate the rival bowlers and gave away their wickets very cheaply. The pick of the Thunders bowling was Humaira Kazi (3 for 4), Niyati Jagtap (3 for 18) and Vrushali Bhagat (2 for 6) which helped seal their big win and second in the tournament.

In another match, Mumbai Warriors charged to a 9-wicket win against Mumbai Unicorns.

Batting first, Mumbai Unicorns were bundled out for a meager 67 runs in 18.1 overs. Later, Mumbai Warriors easily reached the winning target making 71 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10.3 overs. Sanika Chalke scored an unbeaten 38 runs.

Brief scores: Mumbai Thunders 114 for 6 wickets, 20 overs (Vrushali Bhagat 44; Janhhvi Kate 2/16, Sayali Satghare 2/23) beat Mumbai Blasters 69 all out, 18.3 overs (Riya Chaudhari 29; Humaira Kazi 3/4, Niyati Jagtap 3/18, Vrushali Bhagat 2/6). Result: Mumbai Thunders won by 45 runs.

Mumbai Unicorns 67 all out, 18.1 overs lost to Mumbai Warriors 71 for 1 wicket, 10.3 overs (Sanika Chalke 38*). Result: Mumbai Warriors won by 9 wickets.
