Bollywood stars and Indian Navy Charity Match for a cause


A galaxy of stars will descend on terra-firma, to be specific, on the lush terrain of The Bombay Gymkhana, to showcase their soccer skills in a match for a very worthy cause. The Bombay Gymkhana under its CSR initiative, ‘BG CARES’, wishes to demonstrate its pride and admiration for the personnel `AAAQof our Armed Forces especially those that have laid down their lives in the line of duty, by extending assistance to the families they have left behind. As stated by the management, the funds collected through the charity match would be contributed towards the Navy’s welfare initiatives for Veer Naris, widows of the Naval personnel, who lost their lives while in service, in the line of duty.

The ASFC (All Stars Football Club) and the Indian Navy team are set to fight it out at The Bombay Gymkhana in an Exhibition football match for the “The Navy Cup” on Wednesday evening at 7.30 pm. This ASFC team includes Abhishek Bachchan (Captain), Ibrahim Ali Khan, Samir Kochhar, Jim Sarbh, Aparshakti Khurana, Caesar Gonsalves, Vivian Dsena, Karan Veer Mehra, Harpreet Baweja, Aditya Seal, Sachiin Joshi, Karan Wahi, Ravjeet Singh and Archis Patil The Chief Guest for the event will be the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh PVSM, AVSM, VSM ADC.

In respect of this event The FOCINC, WNC, Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh said that the Navy lays high priority on the welfare and the well-being of Veer Naris and has initiated many programmes to provide support and assistance to widows, in bringing up their children and managing their families. The Navy continues to look for avenues to help such women in need. Abhishek Bachchan, the Captain of ASFC said, “The motto of our club is ‘Playing for Humanity’ and there couldn’t be a better tribute to the fallen brothers-inarms, than to play with the officers of the Indian Navy for this worthy cause”. And finally the host of the event the Bombay Gymkhana President Mr. Aga Hussain said: “The Bombay Gymkhana has always supported causes that are noble and deserving and none more worthy than this one. We will endeavor to garner generous contributions from our members and our associates”.
