Opener D’Almeida unbeaten ton powers Parsee Gymkhana win


Dashing opening batsman Kevin D’Almeida cracked an unbeaten 106 runs (121-balls, 12×4, 2×6) to power Parsee Gymkhana to a convincing 9-wicket win against Islam Gymkhana on Day-2 of their second round Group-A match of the 75th UPL-Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2022-23, played at the Western Railway ground, Cross Maidan on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, Islam Gymkhana were bowled out for 179 runs in 52.5 overs.  Salman Ahmed and Ameya Dandekar were the only two batters, who managed to get some runs, making 46 and 37 runs respectively, while Aakarshit Gomel claimed 5 wickets for 40 runs. In reply, Parsee Gymkhana easily scored 181 for the loss of just one wicket in 35 overs. Besides D’Almeida century effort, Sachin Yadav contributed 41 runs to see Parsee Gymkhana through.

Meanwhile, the combined batting performances from Chinmay Sutar who smashed a quick 108 runs (109-balls, 7×4, 3×6), Akash Parkar an unbeaten 87 runs, Akash Anand 73 runs and Aarya Satpute 67 runs helped Cricket Club of India record a fighting three wicket win against Bombay Gymkhana in a thrilling Group-C match.

Bombay Gymkhana batting first scored 382 for 6 wickets in 70 overs. Hiken Shah 151 runs (143-balls, 23×4, 1×6), Bhupen Lalwani 75 runs, Parag Khanapurkar an unbeaten 58 runs and Nikhil Patil 45 propped the Bombay Gymkhana innings. Chasing a challenging target, Cricket Club of India reached 383 for 7 wickets in 68.3 overs to clinch a tight win.

In a Group-D match, hosts Mumbai Police Gymkhana suffered a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of P.J. Hindu Gymkhana. Mumbai Police riding on the solid batting from Ruturaj Sane unbeaten 112 runs (197-balls, 9×4, 2×6) and Nadeem Shaikh 62 runs piled up a huge total of 298 for 8 wickets from their 70 overs. Hindu Gymkhana comfortably surpassed the target scoring 302 for 4 wickets in 61.4 overs. The hero was Sachin Wagh who made an unbeaten 114 runs (132-balls, 10×4, 2×6), Yogesh Dongare unbeaten 60 runs and the small but useful efforts of Harsh Salunkhe 38 runs and , Viraj Jadhav 36 runs ensured Hindu Gymkhana sail to victory with plenty to spare.
