Bombay Gymkhana snatch narrow win


Bombay Gymkhana Sports Club took an early lead and did well to hang on to that advantage to pull off a narrow 1-0 win against Ratnam Sports Academy in keenly contested Super Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) Yuva President’s League, played at the Neville D’Souza football turf, Bandra on Tuesday.

The Bombay Gymkhana outfit started in aggressive fashion and in the very ninth minute striker Cyrus Kharbhari found the back of the Ratnam net to put his team in front.

Ratnam attackers tried their best to find the equalizer but were unable to break down the resolute Bombay Gymkhana defence and were forced to end up on the losing side.

Earlier, Somaiya Sports Academy produced a strong second half performance scoring four goals during this period to hand RSF-Spartan SA a 5-1 defeat. Spartan SA took the lead through Kumar Rathod before Somaiya scored the equalizer through Ayub Qureshi’s first half strike. In the second session Somaiya completely dominated play and scored through Vaibhav Shetti, Pranay Kanekar, Keval Salva, and Ananthakrishnan Bharatrajan to complete the margin of victory.
