Chinmaya Somaiya was in prime form and was in complete control as he cruised to straight games 4-0 win against Yash Dalvi in the men’s singles final of the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana (JVPG) Club sponsored JVPG-TSTTA District Table Tennis Championship 2022, and played at the JVPG Club table tennis hall.
The second-seeded Somaiya played consistently to overcome the challenge from Dalvi and raced to a 11-8, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-8 victory to emerge champion and pick up the gold medal.
Earlier, unseeded Akshat Jain and sixth-seeded Jash Modi were locked in a grim tussle for supremacy in the boys’ under-19 singles final. In a match of fluctuating fortunes Jain started positively by winning the opening two games before Modi fought back and won the next three games in succession to take a 3-2 lead. But a determined Jain bounced back by taking the last two games to clinch a hard-fought 14-12, 11-6, 12-14, 10-12, 8-11, 11-6, and 11-9 victory.
In the boys’ under-17 singles final, seventh-seeded Dhruv Shah recorded a stunning 4-1 win against number one seed Dev Hingorany to claim the gold medal. Hingorany did well to win the first game but was unable to maintain the winning momentum as Shah showed solid fighting qualities and went on to win four straight games to wrap up the contest at 8-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-7, and 11-8 to emerge victorious.
In the Veteran Men’s singles final, second-seeded Nishant Kulkarni got the better of Sameer Bhate winning in three straight games at 12-10, 11-7, and 11-7.
