Ananya Chande played with plenty of determination and went on to clinch double crowns by winning the girls’ under-17 singles and women’s singles titles in the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana (JVPG) Club sponsored JVPG-TSTTA District Table Tennis Championship 2022, and played at the JVPG Club table tennis hall.
The talented and skillful Anaya seeded third in the girls’ under-17 competition recorded a stunning victory against number one seed Divyanshi Bhowmick to collect her first gold medal. Bhowmick, who had won the girls’ under-13 and under-15 singles titles earlier, showed signs of picking up a third title when she won the opening game. But, her hopes were brushed aside as Ananya stamped her authority by winning the next four games in succession to clinch a deserving 8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 13-11, and 11-8 victory.
Later in the women’s singles final, the top-seeded Ananya once again dropped the first game against the third-seeded Anannya Basak. But, Ananya gallantly fought back and recovered to take the next four games to turn the tables on Anannya and carve out a hard-fought 8-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-9, and 11-4 win for her second gold medal.
