Pratim Manihar & Darshita Rajguru emerge champions


Pratim Manihar and Darshita Rajguru won the boys’ and girls’ under-13 singles titles respectively in the Late Shri Kishor Atmaram Palekar Yonex Sunrise Shuttle Craze Maharashtra State Open Sub-Junior Badminton Championship 2022, being organised by Shuttle Craze at the Andheri Sports Complex badminton courts.

In the boys’ final, third seed Pratim fought hard to quell the spirited challenge from second seed Jayden Noronha winning in three absorbing games. Pratim lost the first game, but bounced back to win the second before winning a tense decider to clinch a 20-22, 22-20, and 26-24 victory.

In contrast, unseeded Darshita who had defeated top seed Anushka Epte 21-14, 21-12 in the semi-finals, maintained her winning momentum and conquered another seed defeating third seed Thea Sheth 21-7, 21-10 in the girls’ final.

In the girls’ under-11 singles final, number one seed Vidhi Saini got the better of third seed Tiann Castellino 21-17, 21-7 and in the boys’ under-11 singles final, second seed Pragnay Shinde warded off a strong fight from fourth seed Ashlon Pinto pulling off a 21-17, 21-18 win and emerge champion.

Results: Girls’ under-11 singles – Final: 1-Vidhi Saini beat 3-Tiann Castellino 21-17, 21-7. Semi-finals: Vidhi Saini beat 4-Sanaaya Thakkar 21-11, 21-6; Tiann Castellino beat Anjana Nair 21-13, 24-22.

Boys’ under-11 singles – Final: 2-Pragnay Shinde beat 4-Ashlon Pinto 21-17, 21-18. Semi-finals: Ashlon Pinto beat 1-Pratham Raut 21-11, 17-21, 21-16; Pragnay Shinde beat 3-Revvant Shringarpure 21-8, 21-10.

Girls’ under-13 singles – Final: Darshita Rajguru beat 3-Thea Sheth 21-7, 21-10. Semi-finals: Darshita Rajguru beat 1-Anushka Epte 21-14, 21-12; Thea Sheth beat Santoshi Khairnar 21-9, 21-15.

Boys’ under-13 singles – Final: 3-Pratim Manihar beat 2-Jayden Noronha 20-22, 22-20, 26-24. Semi-finals: Pratim Manihar bt Kritya Patel 21-14, 21-16; Jayden Noronha Zehn Masani 14-21, 21-8, 21-17.
