Kritya Patel shocks top seed Satya Chauhan


Unseeded Kritya Patel registered a stunning victory defeating top seed Satya Chauhan 15-14, 15-13 in a boys’ under-13 singles match of the Late Shri Kishor Atmaram Palekar Yonex Sunrise Shuttle Craze Maharashtra State Open Sub-Junior Badminton Championship 2022, being organised by Shuttle Craze at the Andheri Sports Complex badminton courts.

Fourth seed Mayuresh Bhutki also crashed out losing in straight games 4-15, 11-15 to unseeded Zehn Masani in another boys’ under-13 match.

Meanwhile, top seed Tanay Mehendale faced a late challenge from Sean Pereira but managed to stay in control to record a straight games 15-7, 16-14 win in a boys’ under-15 singles match.

However, second seed Zayan Kapadia suffered a shock defeat going down to Soham Patil in two games at 9-15, 10-15.

In girls’ under-15 matches, Mrunal Potdar prevailed over Yuvika Bajaj 15-9, 15-5, while Bhakti Patil overcame Divya Khare 15-5, 15-8. Myra Oak overcame a strong fight from Darshita Rajguru before pulling off a 15-13, 15-12 win in two tough games, while Ditisha Somkuwar defeated Madhura Kakade 15-10, 15-7 to complete the semi-final line-up.

Anushka Epte the top seed in the girls’ under-13 category eased past unseeded Pranjal Dedhia 15-5, 15-9, while third seed Thea Sheth had a bit of struggle before getting the better of Kanak Yadav coasting to 15-11, 15-10 win.

In other boys’ under-13 encounters, second seed Jayden Noronha dished out a determined performance to hand Vishvajit Thavil a 15-13, 15-10 defeat, while third seed Pratim Manihar prevailed over Om Amrutakar 15-11, 15-9.
