Mumbai Knights emerge champions


Mumbai Knights FC managed to overcome defending champions PIFA Sports (Colaba) FC by recording a 2-0 victory in the concluding 4-team play-off league match of the Maharashtra State women’s football league played at the Cooperage football ground, Wednesday.

The newly crowned champions have now qualified to participate in the AIFF Indian Women’s Football League.

The highlight of Mumbai Knights win was consistent goal-scorer Priyanka who struck twice in the final 10 minutes to secure their third successive play-off win.

Incidentally, both Mumbai Knights and coach Steven Dias have made a winning debut.

Earlier, Kenkre FC defeated Warriors of Kolhapur 1-0 to finish third. Substitute Kavya Jaiswal netted the decisive winning goal in the 68th minute.

In a well contested and absorbing match, both Mumbai Knights and PIFA Sports failed to score a goal till the 80th minute. But in the 82nd minute Mumbai Knights managed to forge ahead with Priyanka scoring the opening goal in the 82nd minute.

Priyanka was once again bang on target striking the second goal in the 86th minute to ensure Mumbai Knights emerge champions.

Mumbai Knights with nine points finished first, while PIFA Sports with six points were second, Kenkre FC with three points was third.
