Continuing with the fantastic winning run of form Catholic Gymkhana football team registered their third consecutive victory getting the better of FC Mumbaikars by a fighting 2-1 margin in a Group-A match of the Mumbai Football Association Div-II league, played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Tuesday.
The heroes of Catholic Gymkhana’s third win was Mohit Chandiramani and Kurt Baptista, both scoring a goal each and substitute goalkeeper Ronit More who made some fantastic saves to deny the FC Mumbaikar attackers from scoring just one goal. Sairaj Naidu scored a late goal for the losing side.
Catholic Gymkhana started in an offensive approach and put the FC Mumbaikars defence under pressure. They finally forged ahead with dashing striker Mohit scoring the first goal in the 16th minute.
The Gymkhana side continued to search for goals and Kut, who hit the crossbar initially volleyed home the second goal in the second minute of first half stoppage time to give his team a healthy 2-0 cushion.
After the change of ends, Catholic Gymkhana slackened their pace and was unable to add to their tally.
The youthful FC Mumbaikars outfit tried their best to get back into the match, but only managed one late strike through Sairaj Naidu in the final minute of the 70-minute encounter.
Results: Catholic Gymkhana 2 (Mohit Chandiramani 16th min, Kurt Baptista 35+2nd min) beat FC Mumbaikars 1 (Sairaj Naidu 69th).
