Mumbai Knights outplay Kenkre FC 3-0


Mumbai Knights continued with their domineering form and stormed to a comfortable 3-0 win against Kenkre FC in an eighth round match of the Maharashtra State women’s football league played at the Cooperage football ground. The champions of this competition will qualify for the AIFF Indian Women’s Football League.

The fancied Mumbai Knights outfit dictated terms throughout and after coming close to finding the net on a couple of occasions finally broke the deadlock with Velanie Fernandes striking the first goal and taking a slender 1-0 half-time lead.

Later, consistent goal-scorer Valencia D’Mello doubled the lead, shooting home the second goal in the 69th minute before Kimberly Fernandez converted a penalty in the 76th minute to complete the margin of victory.

Later in the second match, Aspire Football Club rallied to share honours with MUM-Footie First in a 1-1 draw. Footie first took a 10 minute lead with Nandini Balla scoring the opening goal. Aspire FC fought back and got the equalsier through Muriel Adam’s strike in the first minute of the additional period of the first session.

The second half witnessed more midfield action and there was no addition to the scoreboard.

Results: Mumbai Knights FC 3 (Velanie Fernandes 23’, Valencia D’Mello  69’, Kimberly Fernandez 76’-p) beat Kenkre FC 0.
