Catholic Gymkhana continued with their impressive run of form and marched to another fluent win defeating Kopana FC ‘B’ 2-0 in a Group-A match of the Mumbai Football Association Div-II league match, played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Monday. Striker Ralph Cardoz scored both the goals to secure Catholic Gymkhana’s second successive win and the full three points.
The Catholic Gymkhana outfit enjoyed more ball possession and did the bulk of the attacking, but struggled to penetrate deep in the rival territory and create clear chances. Kopana FC was unable to find their rhythm and settle down and take the fight to the opponents.
However, after the change of ends, Catholic Gymkhana finally managed to break the deadlock midway through the second half. Ralph latched on to Joshua D’Souza’s long forward pass and raced towards the goal and then neatly flicked the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to give Catholic Gymkhana a 1-0 lead.
A couple of minutes later, the energetic Mohit Chandiramani worked down the left flank and sent a measured cross for Ralph who did well to trap the ball and boot home. Later, Ralph had another opportunity to complete a hat-trick of goals, but hastily shot straight into the hand of the Kopana goalkeeper.
