The Catholic Gymkhana football team made an impressive, positive start defeating Lemon Break Football Club by a convincing 4-0 margin in the opening Group-A match of the Mumbai Football Association Div-II league match, played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra.
Although it was an excellent combined performance from the Catholic Gymkhana players, striker Mohit Chandiramani hogged the limelight by scoring all the four goals. The first three came in quick succession from his outstanding efforts late in the first half. Mohit then converted a penalty in the second session to complete Catholic Gymkhana’s perfect victory.
The match witnessed a keen contest initially as both teams played an open attacking game and exchanges were evenly shared.
After the strikers of both teams tested the rival custodians, who stood firm and ensured their citadels stayed intact, Mohit finally broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Mohit hit the target with a snap rasping volley from the top of the box and in the very next minute he drilled in a low 25-yard grounder to the left corner giving the rival goalkeeper no chance and doubled the lead. On the stroke of half-time Mohit cut in from the right and with a fierce shot scored from an acute angle to complete his hat-trick and give Catholic Gymkhana a 3-0 half-time cushion.
In the second session Catholic Gymkhana’s Vishal Kapse was tripped inside the penalty area and referee Irfan Shaikh awarded a penalty which was converted by Mohit who blasted past the goalkeeper.
