Satyajeet, Mohit win 1500m gold


36th Maharashtra State Junior Athletics Meet

Satyajeet Pujari of Kolhapur and Satara’s Mohit Jagtap won the gold medals in the men’s (U-20) and men’s (U-18) 1500 metres events respectively in the 36th Maharashtra State Junior (Under-18 and Under-20) Athletics Championships, organised under the auspices of the Maharashtra Athletics by the Mumbai Suburban District Athletics Association at the Priyadarshini Park, Mumbai.

The Kolhapur athlete Pujari beat back the strong challenge from Dada Shingade and Nishant Sawant, both from Satara and clinched the top honours with a time of 4:08.00 secs. Shingade came a close second in 4:08.30 secs, followed by Sawant in 4:08.50 to take the bronze.

The under-18 race witnessed a close finish as Jagtap pipped Kolhapur’s Aditya Patil to bag gold clocking a time of 4:20.73 secs. Jagtap claimed the silver in 4:20.74secs, while Roshan Mali of Dhule was a distant third in 4:21.28secs.

Poona’s Omkar Shidruk bagged the men’s under-20 triple jump gold, clearing a distance of 14.98m. Teammate Akash Jadhav (14.73m) and Khush Shah of Mumbai Suburban (13.27m) won the silver and bronze.

In the men’s under-18 category, Bombay City’s Vivek Gupta picked up the gold with a tremendous effort of 13.93m. Neel Kasar of Mumbai Suburban (13.08m) and Palghar’s Sanskar Jadhav (13.01m) finished in the second and third place.

Triple Jump: 1. Omkar Shidruk (Poona) – 14.98m, 2. Akash Jadhav (Poona) – 14.73m, 3. Khush Shah (Mumbai Suburban) – 13.27m;

Pole Vault: 1. Kushal Mohite (Satara) – 2.70m, 2. Ashutosh Bind (Mumbai Suburban) – 2.50m, 3. Shivaji Gavhane (Thane) – 2.10m.

Women’s (under-20) – 1500m:  1. Tai Hiraman Bamhane (Nashik) – 4:42.54, 2. Ashvini Jadhav (Parbhani) – 4:52.55, 3. Srushti S. Redekar (Kolhapur) – 4:54.65.

Men’s (under-18) – 1500m:  1. Mohit Jagtap (Satara) – 4:20.73, 2. Aditya Patil (Kolhapur) – 4:20.74, 3. Roshan Mali (Dhule) – 4:21.28;

Triple Jump: 1. Vivek Gupta (Bombay City) – 13.93m, 2. Neel Kasar (Mumbai Suburban) – 13.08m, 3. Sanskar Jadhav (Palghar) –  13.01m.
