Central Bank of India produced another impressive combined performance and outplayed Western Railway by charging to a fluent 5-1 victory in a MFA Elite Division League match played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Friday morning.
The result was the third successive victory for Central Bank. They had convincingly won the earlier two games defeating Union Bank of India 5-2 and blanked Income Tax 4-0 with Kamran Ansari scoring all the four goals.
Hafiz Khan and Rahul Majhi scored a brace of goals while Mustafa Sheikh got a late goal to secure Central Bank’s big win while Mervin Fernandes scored Western’s lone goal.
Showing good understanding and excellent teamwork, Central Bank dominated play and opened the scoring through Hafiz in the 22nd minute. Western managed to fight back and restored parity when Mervin netted the equalizer in the 38th minute. But, six minute later Rahul found the net as Central Bank regained the lead and went into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
On resumption Central Bank played in the same attacking vein and scored three times during the second session to complete another convincing win and pocket a further three points.
Hafiz struck the third goal in the 67th minute before Rahul fired home the fourth in the 78th minute to increase Central Bank’s lead to 4-1. Central Bank continued to launch attacks on the Western citadel and Mustafa added his name to the scoresheet with the fifth goal in the 87th minute.
