CTC and UBI start on bright winning notes


Champions Training Centre (CTC) made a rousing start defeating Republicans Sports Club 7-0 in the opening match of the Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) organised Mumbai Hockey Championship 2022, as hockey actions returned to the MHA Stadium, Churchgate on Saturday. Affan Yusuf, Manpreet Singh, Darshan Gawkar, Raj Patil, Romesh Pillay, Vinay Walmiki, and Devender Walmiki scored a goal each for the victors

Later in the evening, Union Bank of India trailing 0-3 came roaring back to overcome Abhi Foundation 6-4 in the second match of the day.

The formidable CTC drew first blood in the third minute with Yusuf scoring from a penalty corner in the third minute. Later, Manpreet, skipper Gawkar, Patil, and Pillay scored a goal each as CTC enjoyed a healthy 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Thereafter, CTC relaxed the pace and scored a goal each in the second and fourth quarters through Vinay Walmiki and Olympian Devender Walmiki to complete the winning margin.

Leading UBI’s charge to victory wasPrince Chaurasia who netted a brace of goals and Vijendra Singh, Vinod Saini, Rahul Shinde, and Aamid Khan, all chipping in with one apiece. For Abhi Foundation Jaspreet S. scored a hat-trick of goals after Sushil Y. had scored an early goal to give them the lead.
