Dharamji Morarji CC and Mumbai Police Gymkhana ‘B’ team scored contrasting wins in the Elite Category semi-final matches of the 10th Insurance Shield T20 Inter-Office Cricket Tournament, organised by Oriental Insurance under the aegis of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and played at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive.
Preferring to bat first, Dharamji Morarji scored just 154 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, but then they did well to defend the total and restricted Automotive Engineering CC to 145 runs for 6 wickets from their 20 overs, to snatch a tense, thrilling 9-run victory. Prathamesh Belchada 45 runs and Nisar Shaikh 33 runs were the main run-scorers for Dharamji, while Kartik Mishra 2 for 16 runs was the lone successful Automotive CC bowler. Automotive CC looked good to overhaul the winning target with Rugved More scoring a patient 68 runs and Dashrath Chavan and Mayur Sanap scoring 28 and 27 runs to keep their hopes alive. But, some tight bowling by Dharamji bowlers Vishweshwar Singh 3 for 24 runs and Jagdish Jadhav 2 for 28 runs put the brakes on the rival batters and picked up crucial wickets to ensure their narrow win. In the other semi-final, Bank of Maharashtra batting first struggled and managed a low total of 117 runs for 9 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Mumbai Police Gymkhana comfortably chased down the target making 121 runs for 3 wickets in 17.1 overs to clinch a comfortable 7-wicket win.
