Jyotsna Pansare, Meet Makkhija emerge outstanding swimmers


Otters Club’s 35th Open  Swimming Championships

Jyotsna Pansare from hosts Otters Club and Meet Makhija from Khar Club Gymkhana  emerged outstanding swimmers with a brace of record-breaking performances on the final day of the Otters Club’s 35th Open  Swimming Championships, held under the auspices of Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatics Association at their pool, at Bandra  here yesterday.

Meet set new marks in 100m butterfly  stroke (00:56.39 secs.)- bettering 2017’s Neel Roy’s timing of 00:58.17secs  and in 200m individual medley  (02:12.62 secs.), he eclipsed 2016’s Jason Smith’s timing 0f 02:13.60 secs. While Jyotsna likewise clocked 01:03.50 in the 100m Back Stroke to better Aditi Dhumatkar’s 2013 timing of 01:06.23 secs. Later she went to set another new record in the 50m Free style (oo:26.13) to improve upon Kenisha Gupta’s 00:26.18 secs set in 2016.

However, Khar Gymkhana’s Rudransh  Mishra, too shared the limelight, as he clinched four golds and one silver. In the process he was credited with one new record and another by equalling the old meet mark. While Avantika Chavan, also from Khar Gymkhana bagged two golds with one record-breaking effort.

Overall Khar Gymkhana bagged the men’s team championships with 276 points, while Otter Dolphin claimed the  women’s honours with 362 points.

Records breakers in various age groups were:

MEN: 100 M Breast Stroke -: Rudransh Mishra (Khar Gym) 01:03.70 (Old  Record- Siddharth Sankhe (Otters) (2017)- 01:04.70). 200 M Individual Medley: Meet Makhija (Khar Gym)- 02:12.62 (Old Record -Jason Smith (Khar Gym) (2016)- 02:13.60).  100 M Butterfly Stroke – Meet Makhija (Khar Gym) 00:56.39 (Old Record -Neel Roy (Khar Gym) (2017)- 00:58.17). 4 x 50 M Free Style Relay : Khar Gym A –  01:34.34 (old Record-(2016)-  01:38.25). 4 x 50 M Medley Relay: Khar Gym Team A –  01:46.28 (Old Record -Khar Gym (2016)-  01:53.89).

Women: 100 M Back Stroke: Jyotsna Pansare (Otters)- 01:03.50 (Old Record- Aditi Dhumatkar (Khar Gym) (2013)- 01:06.23. 100 M Breast Stroke: Zaara Jabbar (Otters)-  01:13.92(Old Record- Aarti Patil (PSP) (2018)- 01:16.36). 100 M Butterfly Stroke: Avantika Chavan (Khar Gym)- 01:02.66 (Old Record- Aditi Dhumatkar (Khar Gym) (2013)   01:03.25. 50 M Free Style: Jyotsna Pansare (Otters)-  00:26.13 (Old Record -Kenisha Gupta (Otters Dolphin) (2019)-  00:26.18. 4 x 50 M Free Style Relay : Khar Gym Team A-  01:48.03 (Old Record -Khar Gym (2013)- 01:50.53. 4 x 50 M Medley Relay:  Otters Team A – 02:00.41 (Old Record- Khar Gym (2013) -02:07.39.

 Individual age group champions were:

MEN:  Rudra Mishra  (Khar Gym) – 4 G+1S (1NMR, 1BMRs). WOMEN: Jyotsna Pansare  (Otters Dolphin)- 2G+1S (2NMRs).

GIRLS:  Under-15: Zara Bakshi  (Otters) –-2G+2S+1B. Under-13: Ananya Nayak (Forest Club)- 5G+1B.

  BOYS: Under-15: Vivaan Thakur  (Khar Gym) – 2G+2S. Under-13: Shwet Poojary (Forest Club) – 5G (with 1 NMR).

Team championships: Men: 1. Khar Gymkhana – 276 points; 2. Otters Dolphin- 198 pts; 3. CSMSS -174 pts. Women: Otters Dolphin – 362 pts; 2.  Khar Gymkhana – 227 pts; 3.  Forest Club –100 pts.
