Shaun Rodrigues shines in Bank of Maharashtra win


Opening batsman Shaun Rodrigues batted confidently and struck an unbeaten 30-ball 68 runs to power Bank of Maharashtra to a commanding 10-wicket win against hosts Oriental Insurance SC in an Elite Category Group-A match of the, in an Elite Category Group-A match of the 10th Insurance Shield T20 Inter-Office Cricket Tournament, organised by Oriental Insurance under the aegis of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and played at the National CC ground, Cross Maidan.

Oriental Insurance, deciding to bat first, was bowled out for a low score of 111 runs in 18.3 overs. Bank of Maharashtra bowlers Naveen Pal 2 for 12 and Ashutosh Mali 2 for 19 took the wickets. Bank of Maharashtra riding on Shaun’s innings did not face any problems as they chased down the target reaching 112 runs. Shaun’s opening partner Ashutosh Mali added 24 runs from 20-balls to complete the win.

In a Group-B encounter, Mumbai Police Gymkhana ‘B’ team defeated Reserve Bank of India by 14 runs in an exciting match. Batting first Mumbai Police reached 147 for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Lower order batsmen Amit Jadhav 48 runs and Ajinkya Deshmukh unbeaten 31 runs rescued the Mumbai Police innings. RBI bowlers Sumeet Sonavdekar (2 for17), Joy Nayak (2 for 29) and Kunal Shirke (2 for 32) shared the wickets. RBI batsmen struggled and failed to chase the target as they were restricted to 133 for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Raj Deshmukh top-scored with 62 runs, but his efforts went in vain.

Brief scores: Elite Category – Group-A: Oriental Insurance SC 111 all out, 18.3 overs (Naveen Pal 2/12, Ashutosh Mali 2/19) lost to Bank of Maharashtra 112 for no loss (Shaun Rodrigues 68, Ashutosh Mali 24). Result: Bank of Maharashtra won by 10 wickets.

Group-B: Mumbai Police 147 for 8 wickets, 20 overs (Amit Jadhav 48, Ajinkya Deshmukh 31 not out; Sumeet Sonavdekar 2/17, Joy Nayak 2/29, Kunal Shirke 2/32) beat Reserve Bank of India 133 for 6 wickets, 20 overs (Raj Deshmukh 62; Aaryaraj Nikam 2/15). Result: Mumbai Police Gymkhana ‘B’ won by 14 runs.
