Jemimah, Simran lead Team Red into final


Leading by example, captain Jemimah Rodrigues batted confidently and scored 80 runs and Simran Shaikh contributed an unbeaten 61 runs, which helped Team Red record a commanding 108-run victory against Team Pink in a semi-final match of the Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament 2021-2022, organised by Victory Cricket Club in association with Pulse Sports Events Entertainment and Eagle Thane Strikers, and played at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground.

Jemimah decision to bat first proved beneficial as Team Red dominated the rival bowlers and amassed a huge total of 200 for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Aachal Valanju 24 runs and Janhvi Kate 22 runs made useful contribution to the total. Team Pink batters failed to rise to the challenge were restricted to 92 for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Tanisha Gaikwad was the lone batswoman who managed to score an unbeaten 31 runs.

In the first semi-final, Team Purple’s Jeeya Mandrawadkar bowled well to claim 3 wickets for 8 runs to restrict Team Purple to a low total of 93 runs for 4 wickets. In reply, Team Purple riding on Manali Dakshini 31 runs and Siddheshwari Pagdhare 23 runs comfortable reached 93 for 4 wickets to complete an easy win and set up an interesting clash with Team Red in the final.

Brief scores: Team Orange: 92 for 7 wickets, 20 overs (Sayali Satghare 39; Jeeya Mandrawadkar 3/8) lost to Team Purple: 93 for 4 wickets, 17.3 overs (Manali Dakshini 31, Siddheshwari Pagdhare 23; Sayali Satghare 3/18). Result: Team Purple won by 6 wickets.

Team Red: 200 for 5 wickets, 20 overs (Jemimah Rodrigues 80, Simran Shaikh 61*, Aachal Valanju 24, Janhvi Kate 22) beat Team Pink: 92 for 7 wickets, 20 overs (Tanisha Gaikwad 31*). Result: Team Red won by 108 runs.
