Meena Parande who was four times national Table Tennis Champion in 50s passed away in Nagpur yesterday. She was 91. Few days ago she was admitted to a hospital in Nagpur. After shifting from Pune she lived in Nagpur for the past 12 years.
During the period 1953 to 1958 Meena represented Maharashtra and later played for Railways team from 1959 to 1965 for the National championship. She represented India in the year 1954 and 1956 for the World Table Tennis Championships, besides playing other international tournaments. In 1954 and 1955 she represented India at the Asian TT Championship. In 1954 she was ranked Asia no. 3. After her retirement from competitive TT, she coached many youngsters in Pune. Prominent among them were Suhas Kulkarni, Nandini Kulkarni & Ajay Sidhaye.
