NBA Basketball Tournament
Host NBA produced a determined performance to overcame Ghatkopar YMCA 67-45 (half-time: 36-20) in a men’s Pool-A league match of the Nagpada Basketball Association organised 18th NBA Invitational Basketball Tournament, played at the floodlit Late Bachoo Khan basketball courts, Nagpada on Wednesday evening.
Playing on their home courts NBA cagers played confidently and dominated play from the start. NBA’s leading scorer was P. Shaikh with 19 points while G. Kazi and Deepak S. contributed with 11 points and 9 points respectively to complete the winning margin. Ghatkopar YMCA fought well and scored through V. Sharma 12 points and Salman Bhat 11 points.
Earlier in a Boys’ under-18 match, Indian Gymkhana defeated Mastan YMCA by a narrow 35-28 (half-time: 15-13) points difference. Gautam B. 14 points and Ayush M. 8 points were responsible for Indian Gymkhana’s win. Mastan YMCA scored their points through Jasir S. 10, Ali M. 9, and Ankit Gupta 6 points.
In a Girls U-18 contest, Mahendra Park SC prevailed over Khal Hoops 32-20 after racing to an 18-11 half-time lead. Harshali J. 16 points and Laranya A. 11 points played key roles in Mahendra Park’s success. Jannat Qureshi 6 points and Shabnoor Khan 5 points helped Khal Hoops put up a fight.
Later in a women’s encounter, Agredneya Vyam Shala had things much their own way and defeated Bandra YMCA 43-31 after racing to a 19-8 half-time lead. Neha S. 17 points and Ishita R. 12 points were the main players to score the points for Agredneya, while Bandra YMCA scored through Shikha S. 12 points and Darnienne D. 9 points.
Results – Girls U-18: Mahendra Park SC (Harshali J. 16, Laranya A. 11) beat Khal Hoops (Jannat Qureshi 6, Shabnoor Khan 5) 32-20 (half-time: 18-11).
Boys U-18: Indian Gymkhana (Gautam B. 14, Ayush M. 8) beat Mastan YMCA (Jasir S. 10, Ali M. 9, Ankit Gupta 6) 35-28 (half-time: 15-13).
Women: Agredneya Vyam Shala (Neha S. 17, Ishita R. 12) beat Bandra YMCA (Shikha S. 12, Darnienne D. 9) 43-31 (half-time: 19-8).
