Sudev shines as CTC clinch Late Victor D’Mello Trophy


 

Abrhan Sudev was at his best and scored a hat-trick of goals to steer CTC (Champions Training Centre) to a 6-2 win against Union Bank of India in the Men’s Open final and claimed the Late Victor D’Mello Memorial Trophy in the 41st Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana rink hockey tournament, played at the WCG floodlit courts.

A dominant CTC called the shots from the start and unsettled the Union Bank of India outfit by finding the net at regular intervals. Besides Sudev’s brilliant efforts the others who contributed towards the victory were Darshan Gawkar, Manpreet Singh, and Tejas Chavan, all making their presence felt scoring one goal apiece to secure their win and clinch the top honours. Union Bank of India who were forced to play second fiddle managed to score twice through a brace of goals from Vinod Saini.

Earlier, the Veteran Men’s summit clash witnessed a thrilling contest between eventual champion Mumbai Raje Orange and Sea View SC, and the former managed to snatch a 6-5 win to emerge champions.

 

Mumbai Raje White were well-served by Meghraj Murthy and  Devinder Kumar both striking two goals each while Solomon Alexander and Enrico Fernandes added one apiece to complete a satisfying win. Sea View who put up dogged, fighting performance scored their goals through the efforts of Sanjay Fernandes who hit the target twice with one goal scored by Shelton Carvalho, Kayzin D’Souza, and Gavin Vandrine.

 

Results – Veteran Men (semi-finals): Sea View SC 1 (Sanjay Fernandes) beat Kalina Village Boys ‘A’ 0; Mumbai Raje White 3 (Madan Iyer, Meghraj Murthy, Devinder Kumar) beat Mumbai Raje White 1 (Neuman D’Souza).

Final: Mumbai Raje White 6 (Meghraj Murthy 2, Devinder Kumar 2, Solomon Alexander, Enrico Fernandes) beat Sea View SC 1 (Sanjay Fernandes 2, Shelton Carvalho, Kayzin D’Souza, Gavin Vandrine).

Men Open (semi-finals): C.T.C. 7 (Darshan Gawkar 2, Manpreet Singh 2, Devinder Walmiki, Abhran Sudev, Tejas Chavan) beat India Rush Blue 3 (Danroy Fonseca, Shubham Redkar, Het Pawar); Union Bank of India 8 (Prince Chaurasiya 3, Suraj Shali 3, Vinod Saini 2) beat United Hockey Pune 6 (Gufran Shaikh 2, Abdul Sulaimani 2, Atharva Kambli, Pranav Mane).

Final: C.T.C. 6 (Abrhan Sudev 3, Darshan Gawkar, Manpreet Singh, Tejas Chavan) beat Union Bank of India 2 (Vinod Saini 2).
