Now days, there is a big demand for South Indian action films dubbed in Hindi on OTT platform. There are many such films which are also available on Youtube channel . One such original Kannada film ‘Mahira’ recently dubbed in Hindi with the name ‘Lady Gangster Mahira’ is available for viewing on youtube.
The film opens with an interesting story of a Mother ( Maya) and daughter ( Adya) who run a beach café in Coastal Karnataka. While the mother manages the café, her teenaged daughter besides attending her high school, helps her mother to attend customers. Adya who is otherwise a strong girl, known for her bravery acts, gets suddenly upset one day, when goons posing as Police officials come to arrest her mother . She witnesses the strength of her mother while knocking down these criminals and setting their own café on fire. Both mother and daughter are on the run for their life after this incidence.
Virginia in ‘Mahira’
As the film progresses, we discover the past of Maya as an Undercover agent and also the reason behind her husband’s death. She reveals the truth to Adya and decides to take on the most dangerous people behind funding terrorist activities in India, including one from her own intelligence department. Her effort is to acquire the evidence to prove herself not guilty, as the IB officials are also after her arrest.
Technically, this is a well presented female centric action film with an interesting plot supported by action sequences and some twists. The lead character of Maya played by Virginia Rodrigues is filled with grit and determination while overcoming the tough challenges in her life. The former theatre artiste who made her debut in Kannada films through this film, is perfectly suited for this role. She seems to have trained very hard in martial arts, while executing all her fight scenes, displaying her quick reflexes. And therefore, she steals the show in this film. Virginia has received good support from Chaithra Achar who has played the role of Adya , Raj B Shetty as the investigating officer and few others. Director Mahesh Gowda has done a fairly good job, as this was also his debut film as a director in 2019. Certainly a worth watch film for action film lovers. Now, it remains to be seen who will be interested in making a Hindi remake of this film and who will be playing the role of Maya the central character?
