Sairaj, Musheer shine in Islam Gym win


Top order batsmen Sairaj Patil 90 runs (50balls, 10×4, 5×6) and opener Musheer Ahmed Khan 70 runs (45balls, 12×4, 1×6) powered hosts Islam Gymkhana to a comprehensive 70-run victory against Bohra Cricket Club in a first round match of the 71st Nawab Salar Jung Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Islam Gymkhana under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association, and played at the Islam Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Saturday.

Electing to bat first, Islam Gymkhana piled up a massive total of 204 runs for the loss of just four wickets from 20 overs. All-rounder Omar Patni was the most successful Bohra CC bowler and took 2 wickets for 9 runs.

Faced with a huge target for victory, Bohra CC batsmen did not rise to the challenge and lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for 134 in 19.3 overs. Once again Omar Patni showed confidence and top-scored with 41 runs and Nisar Shaikh chipped in with 22 runs. Islam Gymkhana’s left-arm medium pacer Danish Rainey (3 for 33), left-arm spinner Hasim Sayyed (3 for 21) and Medium pacer Moin Khan (2 for 30) were the main bowlers to pick up the wickets.

In another match, a 92-run second wicket partnership between Prathmesh Pawar 58 runs (39b 7×4) and Adeeb Usmani 46 runs (2×4, 2×6) enabled Young Mohammedan Sports Club record a fluent 5-wicket win against Apollo CC at the Parsee Gymkhana ground.

Young Mohammedan lost opener Jay Bista on the first ball of the innings. But, Pawar and Usmani batted confidently and ensured their team reach the winning score of 151 for 5 wickets in 19 overs. Earlier, Apollo CC who was sent in to bat first scored 150 runs for 7 wickets from the quota of 20 overs. Vighnesh Kharge 46 not out (2×4, 3×6) and Divyang Hinganekar 40 (3×4, 2×6) contributed to the total.

In the third match, Muslims United SC handed P.J. Hindu Gymkhana a 5-wicket defeat. Batting first Hindu Gymkhana were bowled out for a paltry 108 runs in 16.5 overs. Utkarsh Raut 26 runs was the only batsman who stayed long in the middle. Muslim United bowlers Farhan Kazi (3 for 21), Vaibhav Chougule (3 for 22) and Vinayak Bhoir (2 for 11) shared the spoils.

In reply, opening bat Kevin D’Almeida smashed an unbeaten 66 runs and Rajesh Tandel’s unbeaten 22 runs lifted Muslims United to 111 runs for 5 wickets in just 16 overs. Vineet Sinha (2 for 18) and Salil Agharkar (2 for 25) were Hindu Gymkhana’s only successful bowlers.

Hindu Gymkhana 108 all out, 16.5 overs (Utkarsh Raut 26; Farhan Kazi 3 for 21, Vaibhav Chougule 3 for 22, Vinayak Bhoir 2 for 11) lost to Muslims United Sports Club 111 for 5 wickets (Kevin D’Almeida 66*, Rajesh Tandel 22*; Vineet Sinha 2 for 18, Salil Agharkar 2 for 25). Result: Muslims United SC won by 5 wickets.

Apollo Cricket Club 150 for 7 wickets, 20 overs (Vighnesh Kharge 46*, Divyang Hinganekar 40; Sanket Pande 2 for 18, Kadir Patel 2 for 23) lost to Young Mohammedan Sports Club 151 for 5 wickets, 19 overs (Prathmesh Pawar 58, Adeeb Usmani 46, Kadeer Patel 22; Pratik Sargade 2 for 21, Faiz Khan 2 for 38). Result: Young Mohammedan SC won by 5 wickets.
