Dashing forwards Sanjana Salunkhe (4 goals) and Hetal Goswami (3 goals) led from the front to power St. Teresa’s HS, Santacuz to a thumping 7-0 win against India Rush SC in a Girls’ under-16 semi-final match of the Winter Rink hockey tournament, approved by Hockey India and played at the Dominic Savio HS hockey turf, Andheri on Friday. This is the first hockey tournament to be played in the city following the Covid-19 lockdown.
India Rush showed promise initially, but they could not defend for long and wilted under tremendous pressure after Hetal from a solo effort scored the opening goal in the fifth minute. Thereafter, Sanjana showed great finishing touch and netted three goals in quick succession to put St. Teresa’s in a commanding position (4-0).
St. Teresa’s girls continued to dictate terms and added three more goals with Hetal scoring twice and Sanjana once to round-off the winning margin.
In the second semi-finals, Gokuldham HS, Goregaon defeated Canossa Convent HS, Andheri by a convincing 4-0 margin. Roshni Patel and Shravani Sawant combined well and scored a brace of goals each to seal their victory.
In the boys’ competition, Bombay Republicans got the better of India Rush 4-2 while Independent SC outclassed Gokuldham SC 14-0 in the semi-final matches.

Boys’ under-16: Bombay Republicans 4 (Harsh Rakshe 2, Mohsh Shah 2) beat India Rush 2 (Ashish Yadav 2).
Independent SC 14 (Vansh Shah 4, J. Bharadia 3, Pranav Amin 2, Cristiano Correira 2, Jayden Pereira, Shayne D’Costa, Neel Amin) beat Gokuldham SC 0.
