Defending champions MIG Cricket Club will launch the defence of their title against Parsee Gymkhana in an opening Group-A clash of the 73rd Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2020-2021, which is scheduled to commence from Saturday, February 13, 2021. This prestigious tournament, sponsored by the D.Y. Patil Group, Navi Mumbai and organized under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), will be the first cricket competition in the city since the lockdown due the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, last year’s runners-up Parkophene Cricketers will take on hosts Mumbai Police in a Group-B encounter at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground.
A total of 16 teams, including a Sponsors XI (DY Patil Group), will be vying for the top honours in this competition. Besides defending champions MIG CC and runners-up Parkophene Cricketers the other teams that will be participating are Parsee Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana, D.Y. Patil SA, Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Bombay Gymkhana, Cricket Club of India, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, New Hind Sporting Club, National CC, Karnatak SA, Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Payyade SC, and MCA Colts.
This year the matches will be played on a limited 45 overs format and at 10 different venues.
The teams have been divided into four groups. The top team from each group will qualify for the semi-finals on February 21 and the grand finale on February 28.
All the Matches will be played as per the New Model Rules of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
The groupings:
Group-A: MIG CC, Parsee Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana, D.Y. Patil SA.
Group-B: Parkophene Cricketers, Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Bombay Gymkhana, Cricket Club of India.
Group-C: P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, New Hind Sporting Club, National CC, Karnatak SA.
Group-D: Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Payyade SC, Sponsor XI, MCA Colts.
