Reeth Rishya clinches women’s crown in State TT Championship

The Suburban Table Tennis Association (TSTTA), Mumbai dominated today’s women’s Singles event with their seven players entering the quarter finals of the Dr. Ramesh Prabhoo Memorial 82nd Maharashtra State Table Tennis Championship organized by The Suburban District Table Tennis Association and played at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, Vile Parle, Mumbai.

Reeth Rishya of TSTTA  was crowned the Women’s Singles State Championship title. Reeth a renowned National level player, who earlier played for Tamil Nadu, has now shifted to Mumbai Suburbs, after her marriage to International TT star Sanil Shetty.  Reeth has a rare  distinction of winning the State Championship titles of two different states, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Reeth defeated compatriot Divya Deshpande 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9, 12-14, 11-9 in the Women’s singles final, to make her beau Sanil happy. Sanil was physically present there to boost the morale of his wife during the match.

In the final match played late today evening, Reeth showed better control and produced a stellar performance to emerge champion. She looked more confident throughout the match, in spite of losing two games, which she lost over extra points to Divya.  Earlier, Divya recovered to send her teammate Madhurika Patkar crashing out coasting to 4-2 margin, winning by 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 win in the semi final; while Reeth recorded comfortable victory against teammate Vidhi Shah in straight games 11-9, 11-2, 11-9, 11-4.

Much was expected from young Youth Girls Champion Diya Chitale also from TSTTA, but she went down fighting 3-4 to Vidhi Shah also from TSTTA, in a well contested quarter final match.

Women singles  – Quarter-finals: Divya Deshpande (TSTTA) beat Mansi Chiplukar (Mumbai City) 11-3, 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6;

Madhurika Patkar (TSTTA) beat Anannya Basak (TSTTA) 11-7, 11-3, 11-4, 11-3;

Vidhi Shah (TSTTA) beat Diya Chitale (TSTTA) 06-11, 11-13, 11-05, 11-06, 11-07, 06-11, 11-9;

Reeth Rishya (TSTTA) beat Manushree Patil (TSTTA) 11-09, 11-09, 11-09, 11-04.

Semi-finals: Divya Deshpande (TSTTA) beat Madhurika Patkar (TSTTA) 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6;
