Premiered on Hotstar on the 17 March 2020,‘Special Ops’ is an Indian espionage thriller series created by Neeraj Pandey with Kay Kay Menon playing theleadrole. Neeraj along with Shivam Nair has directed this eight part series, which is produced by Shital Bhatia. The series revolves around Himmat Singh (Kay Kay Menon) of Research and Analysis Wing, who draws similar patterns in terrorist attacks and is convinced that a single person is behind all the attacks. His task force team of five agents living in different parts of the world, aim to catch the mastermind, behind the terrorist attacks in India. The story is inspired by several espionage missions undertaken by India in the last two decades.
Interestingly, every episode is suitably titled, like, ‘Kaagaz Ke Pool’ , ‘Guide’, ‘Mughal-E-Azam’,’Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi’,’Chaudvin Ka Chand’,’Qurbani’,‘Shatranj Ke Khiladi’& ‘Sholay’ , which are names of all hit Bollywood films. The film has recreated Parliament of India for filming the 2001 Indian Parliament attack portions, to make it more realistic. Apart from India the series is filmed at places like Turkey, Jordan and Azerbaijan, which makes it more appealing. Besides Kay Kay Menon, this action packed eight part thriller stars Revathi Pillai, Karan Tacker, Saiyami Kher ,Vipul Gupta, Muzammil Ibrahim, Sana Khan , Meher Vij, Divya Dutta, Vinay Pathak, Sajjad Delafrooz, Parmeet Sethi, Kali Prasad Mukherjee in prominent roles and Sharad kelkar par of the last part in important role.
Besides superb direction by Neeraj Pandey and Shivam Nair, the captivating cinematography by Sudheer Palsane and Arvind Singh with suitable composition from Advait Nemlekar adds value to this fast paced exciting series for adults . Please do not watch this film with your children, as it contains rough language uttered by some of the characters. Technically, it is a very well made film.
