Unique’ World Cup’ for cricket crazy part-timers


 

This is unique a “World Cup” for cricket crazy  players   over 50 years of age to be held in South Africa from March 11 with  the final to be played at Newland (Cape Town) on March 24. It may not be an  ICC event, but apart from India, other countries taking are: Pakistan, England,  South Africa,  Wales,  Namibia, Sri Lanka,  Australia, Zimbabwe , New Zealand  and Canada.

The teams mostly comprise part-time players from the corporate world. Like in Indian team,  there is Ashwani Arora, who quit his high profile corporate job four years back to his passion of playing cricket, which takes him to  England for about five months in a year right from 2016  to trade his art of   bowling chinaman. He is credited to have captured  over 100 wickets .

 

Ashwani, who plays in Kent League mostly,  was the second highest wicket taker in the Kent League this year. In one of the team selection matches,  he bagged a hat-trick while having   six wickets to his credit. Among others, there is Aadil Chagla, a doctor by profession from Bombay Gymkhana and Mayank Khandwala, former MCA  committee member, who has often played for Cricket Club  of India.
