Hrishikesh Malhotra and Sanskruta Thakur, both emerged supreme, winning for the Junior Boys & Girls’ crowns respectively in the CCI Juniors Prize-Money Table Tennis Tournament 2020, at the Cricket Club of India Table Tennis Room. The event is conducted under the aegis of the MCDTTA.
The lanky Hrishkesh showed controlled aggression and went onto to outduel Aadil Anand winning in three closely fought games at 11-9, 11-8 and 11-9 in the boys’ final.
Earlier, Sanskruta Thakur was in total control against Bhoomi Pitale in the girls’ title round and without exerting too much she cruised to a straight game 11-6, 11-6 and 11-9 victory.
In the Junior Boys semi-finals, Hrishikesh encountered a strong challenge from Sanskar Basak but managed to scrape to victory. Hrishikesh started well and raced to a 2-0 lead, but Sanskar fought back by win the next two to level the match scores and force the fifth game. However, in the decider, Sanskar was unable to maintain the momentum and Hrushikesh easily won the game to record a 12-10, 11-6, 9-11, 9-11 and 11-5 success.
In the first semi-final Aadil was dominant against Dhruv Jhaveri and scored a quick 11-6, 11-1 and 11-9 win.
In the girls’ semi-finals, Bhoomi Pitale defeated Shanica Kadam 11-8, 11-5, 11-1 and Sanskruta Thakur brushed aside Siya Hingorany winning at 11-4, 11-6, 6-1
