Mumbai District emerged champions defeating Kolhapur District 5-4 via the sudden death tie-breaker in the final of the WIFA Inter-District Football Championship for Women, organized by the Jalgaon DFA and played at Jalgaon on Tuesday.
The match was evenly contested and finished in a goalless draw. The scores were tied at 4-all after five-set of tie-breaker before Mumbai managed to snatch a win in the sudden death.
The Mumbai players showed better nerves and successfully converted through Meenakshi Bhagat, Shreya Bhat, Anagha Jankiraman and Shruti Lakshmi V.R. in the tie-breaker before Arifa Zaheer scored the winner from the first attempt in the sudden death ro help Mumbai emerge victorious. Mayuri Morey failed to score for Mumbai in the penalty shootou.
Kolhapur scored through Pratiksha Mithari, Sanali Salavi, Priyanka More and Poornima Sale. Poonam Mithari missed in the tie-breaker and Adhika Bhosale was unable to convert in the sudden death.
