Four-time hockey Olympian Dhanraj Pillai showed he still wields the magic scoring touch as he slammed in two goals in leading Rebels SC to a convincing 5-2 win against Bombay Republicans in a Veteran Men’s semi-final clash of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organised 39th Victor D’Mello Memorial Invitational Rink Hockey Tournament 2020, and played under floodlights at the Gymkhana’s tennis courts.
Besides Dhanraj’s fine efforts, Rebels consistent scorer Alexander Solomon also scored two goals and Stanley Fernandes added one to complete the winning margin. Republicans scored through Ashish Gonsalves and Leonard Pereira.
In the other semi-final, Hockey Dadar prevailed over Hockey Navi Mumbai posting a 3-1 victory. Ryan Alphonso, Gavin Vandrine and Deepak Kotian scored a goal each for the Dadar side, Mahesh Swhinde got Navi Mumbai’s lone goal.
In women’s semi-finals, Bombay Republicans overcame Freunds SC 6-5 and Sporting Lions Foundation blanked Sea View SC 7-0.

Sporting Lions Foundation 7 (Yogita Passi 4, Nimmy Nair 2, Priya Dubey) beat Sea View SC 0.
Veteran men’s (semi-finals): Hockey Dadar 3 (Ryan Alphonso, Gavin Vandrine, Deepak Kotian) beat Hockey Navi Mumbai 1 (Mahesh Swhinde).
