Reserve Bank of India emerge champs


Reserve Bank of India (RBI) played with plenty of grit and determination and went on to record a convincing 2-0 win against Atlanta Sports Club in an exciting final of the Rustomjee-MDFA Mohammed Hussain Memorial knockout football tournament for Super Division clubs and played at the Neville D’Souza ground on Saturday.

The bankers showed better understanding and held the upper hand against the Atlanta outfit who put up quite a strong challenge but they could not score a single goal.

 

The match witnessed an even contest initially as both sides tried to create opening in the rival defence, but Reserve Bank succeeded in getting the breakthrough through Tejas Shinde in the 27th minute and give the team a narrow 1-0 half-time advantage.

 

Reserve Bank continued to put pressure on the Atlanta defence and young Durarte D’Souza fired home the second goal in the 48th minute to double  the lead and seal the win and ensure the bankers emerged champions.

 

The champions Reserve Bank of India received the Mohammed Hussain Memorial Trophy and a cash award of Rs 25,000 from Chief Guest Mrs Safia B. Ulde, sister of Mohammed Hussain, while Nigel D’Souza, son of Neville D’Souza, presented Atlanta with the runners-up trophy and a prize fund of Rs 15,000.

 

Results – final: Reserve Bank of India 2 (Tejas Shinde 27, Durarte D’Souza 48)  beat Atlanta  SC 0.
