Defending champions Western Railway were off to flying start as they outclassed PM Hindu Bath 11-3 in their opening match in the annual 8-Team YMCA Waterpolo League -2019, held At YMCA Swimming Pool, Agripada, last night. The matches will be played only on Sundays, while the final is slated for December 22.
The holders, who dominated in the first three quarters (10-2), saw their rivals putting up spirited fight in the fourth and final quarter, as their goalkeeper Meet Sampat baulked at least four attempts under the bar. In the end the strong Western outfit could add just one goal to their earlier tally.
For the railway men, Sarang Vaidya (3), Shreyas Vaidya (2), Arjun Kawle (2) and Pratik Ajmire alongwith the Kunde brothers Ashwini and Akshay completed the tally. For the losers, Vraj Morzaria (2) and Abhay Powle got the consolation goals.
Apart from holders Western Railway and PM Hindu Bath, , the other teams participating in the league are: Central Railway, Maharashtra Police, Deccan Gymkhana, MGMO and Reliance ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams.
