Ravindra, Mamata emerge champions

Khar Gym-All-Mumbai TT

Ravindra Kotiyan, State men’s champion in 2017,  made a brilliant comeback  after a break, as he bagged the men’s singles title in the  Khar Gymkhana-All Mumbai 4-Star Ranking Table Tennis tournament, at Khar Gymkhana here today. In the process, he emphatically showed his class, while lowering the colours of top seeded Jignesh Rahatwal (11-8, 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9) in the semi finals and followed it by making short work of ebullient Parthav Kelkar with a straight games (11-6, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8)  win   to clinch the top honours.

Mamata Prabhu

Mamata Prabhu

Former international Mamata Prabhu, from Bank of Baroda,  continues to be in irresistible form this season as she continues to dominate  in the women’s section. After putting out collegian Aditi Sinha in the semi finals, Mamata  had to bring out her all  the experience of nearly two decades  to the fore to score over Reeth Rishya, a two-times national junior champion from Chennai. Reeth, after outwitting  Mamata with some breathtaking forehand strokes, to go 2-0  up, she ell pray to Mamata’;s tactical ploy as  the latter brought  her years of experience, slowed her down by  varying her pace and direction of strokes to romp home with a 8-11, 12-14, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 win. Reeth, now 24, who has been India ranked No.4 in the country, has now settled in Mumbai, after getting married to  another  India international Sanil Shetty.
