HDFC Bank and Customs advance to quarter-finals


 

HDFC Bank produced a 5-star performance to carve out a convincing 5-1 win against Bank of Baroda in a concluding Group-B encounter. of the MDFA Nadkarni Cup football tournament 2019 and played at the Cooperage ground.

 

Putting up an impressive display HDFC Bank combined nicely as a team and strikers Pragneesh Solanki, Niyat Patel, Prashant Rane, Ramesh Singh and Titus Uttankar, all contributed with a goal each to seal  the win, while Bank of Baroda pulled one back through Denzil Mascarenhas.

 

Elite Division champions, Mumbai Customs faced quite a challenge as they recovered from an early deficit to overcome a spirited Central Bank of India by a 3-1 margin. Seasoned campaigners Praneel Mendon struck two goals and Hekmat singh netted one to secure Custtoms victory, while Shubham Poise had given Central Bank a first half lead.

 

Both, HDFC Bank and Customs finished with the same number of seven points, but the former topped the group with a better goal-differential.

 

Meanwhile, fancied Air India scored an authoritative 7-0 win against FSI Sea View SC in a Group-C league match. The champions Air India were well-served by striker Rishikesh Shinde who struck a hat-trick and Rosenberg Gabriel netted a brace of goals while Ashique Mohammed and Johnson D’Silva chipped in with one apiece to complete the big win.

 

Results –

Group-B: Mumbai Customs 3 (Hekmat Singh 70, Praneel Mendon 75th, 83rd) beat Central Bank of India 1 (Shubham Poise 9th).

 

Group-B: HDFC Bank 5 (Pragneesh Solanki 9th, Niyat Patel 23rd, Prashant Rane 24th, Ramesh Singh 26th, Titus Uttankar 29th) beat Bank of Baroda 1 (Denzil Mascarenhas 47th).

 

Group-C: Air India 7 (Rishikesh Shinde 3, Rosenberg Gabriel 2, Ashique Mohammed, Johnson D’Silva) beat FSI Sea View SC 0.
