Union Bank of India ( UBI) clinched the Independence Cup 2019 when they defeated Western Railway 2-0 in the final of the Rustomjee-MDFA organized football tournament, at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Thursday.
The Union Bank outfit held the upper hand throughout and opened the scoring through Sherwyn Chang in the eighth minute. Ten minutes later Hasan H. netted the second goal to seal Union Bank’s win.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Union Bank overcame Mumbai Strikers 1-0 with Paintal Saini scoring the decisive winner.
In the other semi-final, Western Railway got the better of Mumbai Customs 5-3 via the tie-breaker after the scores were locked goalless at the end of regulation period.

Western Railway 5 (Avinash Dabudiya, Somnath Mondal, Merwin Stephen, Pratik Koli, Hiten Mahida) beat Mumbai Customs 3 (Sajjad Alam, Praneel Mendon, Raj Bhoir) via the tie-breaker. Full-time: 0-0.
Union Bank of India 1 (Paintal Saini) beat Mumbai Strikers 0.
Final: Union Bank of India 2 (Sherwyn Chang 8th, Hasan H. 18th) beat Western Railway 0.
